The firm obtained a verdict on behalf of a homeowner against their homeowner’s insurance policy based upon their bad faith denial of their claim, which included their resulting damages to their dwelling, contents losses, additional living expenses, and nearly a million dollars in bad faith penalties under Louisiana law. The homeowner’s insurance company did not timely adjust the claim when it was opened after a pipe began leaking in the wall cavity behind the sink in the property in Houma, Louisiana. The leak spread throughout the property, causing water damage to grow throughout the home. However, the homeowner’s insurance company delayed and attempted to deny the claim. We filed the case in Terrebonne Parish and litigated the verdict on appeals in the First Circuit Court of Appeal. Pending appeal, the claim settled for a confidential amount.
